1. Introduction of laser cladding

Laser cladding is a new surface modification technology, which uses laser beam to heat cladding material and substrate surface, so that the special materials needed are fused and welded on the surface of workpiece. Compared with common surfacing and plasma spray welding (coating), laser cladding technology has a series of outstanding characteristics: the microstructure of cladding layer is fine and dense, the hardness of cladding layer is higher, corrosion resistance and wear resistance are better; The results show that the cladding layer is metallurgical bonded with the substrate; the dilution ratio of cladding layer is low (only 5% ~ 8%), and the required performance requirements can be achieved by thinner cladding layer; the laser beam power density is high, the heating temperature is high, and the cladding material selection range is wider; the heat affected zone is small, and the workpiece deformation is less; the cladding quality is stable, and it is easy to realize automatic production.

According to the supply mode of cladding materials, laser cladding can be divided into preset laser cladding and synchronous powder feeding laser cladding. Preset laser cladding is that the cladding material is preset on the cladding part of the substrate surface, and then the cladding material and the substrate surface layer are melted by laser beam scanning. The preset material can be wire, plate, powder and other states, and the most commonly used is alloy powder.

 

2. Introduction of thermal spraying

Thermal spraying refers to a series of processes in which fine and dispersed metallic or non-metallic coating materials are deposited on a prepared substrate surface in a molten or semi molten state to form a spray deposition layer. The coating material can be powder, strip, filament or rod. The thermal spraying gun provides the necessary heat by fuel gas, arc or plasma arc. The thermal spraying material is heated to the plastic or molten state, and then accelerated by compressed air to impact the constrained particle beam on the substrate surface. The particles impacted on the surface are deformed by stamping to form laminated sheets, which adhere to the prepared substrate surface, then cool and accumulate continuously, finally forming a layered coating. Due to the different coating materials, the coating can achieve high temperature corrosion resistance, wear resistance, heat insulation, electromagnetic wave resistance and other functions.

 

3. Comparison of the two

 

The main differences are as follows:
Laser cladding coating and substrate are metallurgically combined, thermal spraying is mechanical combination;
The laser cladding coating is relatively dense, and there are a lot of pores in the thermal spraying coating;stoma
The cost of laser cladding is high and belongs to“high technology”, and the price of thermal spraying is cheap.
Laser cladding belongs to“green environmental protection treatment process”,thermal spraythermal spraying has pollutionto the environment.

The bonding rate of laser cladding is330Mpamore than330mpa, and that of thermal spraying is only about 40mA.40Maonly about 40mA.
